This very relevant question is often asked — and the answer is vast!
It’s easier to begin by clearing up some common misconceptions about auctions:
- Auctions are not reserved for items worth millions, as often portrayed in the media. Our daily work mostly involves objects of modest value.
- We include modern and contemporary creations in our sales.
- These may be items produced in several copies, such as lithographs, books, a vintage handbag, design objects and furniture…
- Every question is worth asking — you can consult us free of charge for as many objects as you wish; this is part of our daily work.
When selecting one of your items for one of our sales, we primarily ask ourselves: to what extent might this item interest collectors?
The answer depends on each case. However, certain types of objects frequently appear in auctions — the first that come to mind include paintings, sculptures, jewelry and watches, gold coins and collectible numismatic pieces, antique and design furniture, historical memorabilia and militaria, and works of art ranging from Antiquity to the 20th century, including those from the Middle Ages…
Other fields are more unusual, such as world arts from Japan, China, Vietnam, Africa, the Americas, Islamic art, but also fine wines, philately, vintage fashion, folk art, classic cars, advertising objects, antique toys… It’s impossible to make an exhaustive list, and we discover fascinating and unexpected collections every day.
Let’s also add that value often hides in objects that may seem insignificant, cumbersome, or even unattractive! There are countless stories of items abandoned on a sidewalk, later recovered and sold by a lucky finder, or stories of objects listed on online sales platforms that immediately attract an incredible number of calls and purchase offers.
